Review of Chapters 5-7 Status Update: What we do is rooted in who we are

*Believers should help each other deal with sin “9 Know you not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortionists, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you: but you are washed, but you are sanctified, but you are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” (1Cor 6:9-11)

Ch 5 Proposition: Believers are not to celebrate or ignore sin but rather mourn it and help each other deal with recurring sin struggles (5:1-2)

*Jesus cares how His people live
Ch 6 Proposition: Since Jesus fully purchased us inside and out, we are to use spirit and body to receive, enjoy and proclaim His glorious kingdom & fight for each other rather than with each other.

*We should live for Christ in our current circumstance
Ch 7 Proposition: Living in Christ is not about creating or waiting for better circumstances but embracing your new identity & learning to be faithfully obedient in all situations.

CHALLENGE
Our new identity changes who & what we serve...internally freed from sin's bondage (6:9-11). This gives us the ability to change & pursue holiness

1. So am I doing what is expedient/helpful?
     Jesus freed us from focus on self & rights so we would care about God & others
     Are your actions helping to bring the church body closer together?
     Believers have a unique obligation to care for the church body (12:25-26; Gal 6:10).
2. Are created things ruling me less? "I will not be brought under the power of any"
     Does God want His people to give sin back the power it once had over us?
     Does the way you utilize creation express worship of God or creation? (Rom. 1:25)
